Easter & Holy Week Services

Palm Sunday – Langside 10.00am
Holy Week
Both Shawlands Trinity and Langside have a tradition of services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and it was agreed that this year Langside will host on Thursday and Shawlands Trinity will host on Friday. In relation to the other evenings of Holy Week, Langside will not maintain its full tradition of services on Mon – Wed, but hold a service on the Tuesday evening which also serves as a finale for the series of Lent groups which have run on Tuesdays. So midweek Holy Week services will be:
Tuesday 26th – 7.30pm – at Langside – Stations of the Cross, using materials provided by Muriel Pearson for the Church of Scotland, making particular reference to the situation in the Middle East.
Thursday 28th – 7.30pm – at Langside – Maundy Thursday service including communion
Friday 29th – 12 noon – at Shawlands Trinity – Good Friday service based on the seven words from the cross. Please note the time of 12 Noon. It would be good to have a strong attendance from Langside. These Holy Week services are important to us all.
Easter Sunday
Easter Day is Sunday morning 31st March. Our traditional early (first) service time of 8.30am, particularly on the weekend that the clocks go forward, was felt not to be ideal. So it was agreed that we should have one single service on Easter Day at 9.30am, followed by breakfast for all. This has a number of benefits, including that the earlier finish time (around 10.20-10.30) would mean that Edson would be able to stay with us for breakfast to get a chance to meet and chat with the congregation before heading over to Shawlands for their 11.30am service.
We recognise there are arguments for and against this arrangement and that it won’t suit everyone to start half an hour earlier than usual but we hope that you will agree that given the unusual circumstances it is worth a try for this year. Those who find 9.30am just too early would still be welcome to come for breakfast (suppose we should call it brunch …) at 10.30am to meet socially with Edson and others in the congregation. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to any within the congregation but we have tried to suit the majority as best we can.
